Omschrijving
Christian Moueix werd op slag verliefd op Napa Valley en haar wijnen, toen hij er aan de University of California in Davis studeerde. In 1981 ontdekte hij Napanook Vineyard, ten westen van Yountville, dat de bron van alle druiven voor de eerste Napa Valley wijnen tussen 1940 en 1950 was. De geschiedenis van de wijngaard gaat terug naar het begin en het ontstaan van de Napa Valley wijnen, toen George Yount daar voor het eerst stokken plantte rond 1838. Napanook produceert vandaag de dag 3 verschillende wijnen: Dominus Estate, hét paradepaardje van het domein sinds 1983; Napanook, genoemd naar de Vineyard sinds 1996 en sinds 2006 is er ook Othello, in beperkte hoeveelheid. Nu ook in het assortiment van de Bruijn Wijnkopers, trots!

Vinous
The 2021 Napanook, tasted from barrel, is fabulous. Rich, deep and super-expressive, the 2021 captures all the best the vintage has to offer. A whole range of floral and savory overtones lend nuance. This vibrant, intensely mineral Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolute delight to taste today, and an especially fine edition of Napanook, endowed with big fruit and equally potent tannins.

Decanter
A delicately aromatic nose of red currants, spicebush, tobacco leaf, dusty minerals, and wildflowers. The palate is compact with a wonderful medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel and plenty of energy and drive. The acidity is firm and inviting, forming a perfect backbone that preserves the wine's freshness. The tannins are satiny with a mocha-scented quality, and the red berry fruit is laced with salty minerals. The wine is impressively tension-filled, vivacious and yet light on its feet. A terrific effort.
