Robert Parker
The 2021 Le Gay offers up aromas of cherries and berries mingled with aromas of mint, vanilla pod and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's rich and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by plenty of extract and oak tannin. It's entirely fermented in new barrels, which has become one of the estate's signatures.

Vinous
The 2021 Le Gay is a poerful, tightly wound wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. It will be interesting to see where this goes. The 2021 certainly has enough depth to drink well for many years. Dark plum, spice, leather, mocha and well-judged oak inform a wine that is all about balance and proportion.

James Suckling
Opulent and pure with currants and blackberries and some floral and orange undertones. Medium to full body. Fine tannins. Bright at the end.

Decanter
Sapply and lithe, sleek, a good energy and focus to this, lifted and bright with ripe fruit but also quite a lot of structure that is taking over the finish a little right now. Toast, liquorice and oak with mint and dried herbs, it's not too much, just reminds you that there is underlying power. A little consumed by wood right now - constricted and tight - but this should smooth out.
